Gas dispute: Government's plea claims supremacy

Thursday August 27, 09 : The Centre will file a fresh application in the Supreme Court on the RIL-RNRL gas dispute. The interlocutory application is ready and waiting for approval of Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily.

The application to be filed by Petroleum Ministry says that the government has supremacy over private agreement in regulation of gas supply; also the government has control over fixing gas price, its quantity and period of supply.

In the earlier petition, the government wanted the MoU between RIL and RNRL be declared null and void.

On the question of intervention by NTPC, the Centre in its application says it will wait for the final decision of the Bombay High Court on NTPC's petition against RIL for enforcement of contract.
